The American Association of Orthodontists recommends all children receive a check-up with an orthodontist starting at age 7. The 7&UP Smile Club is designed to monitor growth and plan for future orthodontic needs. We’ll monitor your child’s oral growth and development for free!

A Smart First Step for Your Child’s Smile

At Juni Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics, we team up with the American Association of Orthodontists to recommend that every child has their first orthodontic check-up around age 7. But don’t worry—this visit isn’t about getting braces. It’s about making sure everything is developing on track.

In fact, most kids we see at this age don’t need any treatment at all. But this early check-in can help us catch small issues before they become bigger problems.

Why Age 7?

By the time your child is around 6 or 7, they’ve got a mix of baby and adult teeth—including their first permanent molars and some front teeth. This is the perfect time for a pediatric orthodontist to take a closer look at how their smile and bite are forming.

Using a panoramic x-ray and a gentle exam, we can spot:

  • Missing adult teeth

  • Signs of crowding

  • Early bite problems

  • Unusual eruption patterns

It’s like a roadmap for your child’s future smile.

What if You Could Help Your Child Avoid Braces Altogether?

Sometimes early orthodontic care (often called phase one treatment) can gently guide jaw and tooth development while your child is still growing. This short phase—typically under a year—can help prevent more complicated treatment later on.

Depending on what we find, we might recommend:

  • A small set of front braces

  • A palate expander

  • A space maintainer

  • A simple retainer

These gentle options can create the space and alignment your child’s smile needs as more adult teeth come in.
